TL;DR
It’s been a week of car trouble, appointments, glaring at screens, digging through files and watching Elmo, The Wiggles and Bluey on an alternating loop. But, I won something! I actually won something! 😃
Also, read to the end for a preview of next week’s newsletter. It’ll be worth it!
I never win anything. In fact, with the exception of a free play on a lottery ticket, I haven’t won anything in years!
I got an email last Friday telling me I won a prize pack because I bought a .ca domain back in June. I forgot all about it, until I found this parcel in the mailbox today.
The CIRA logo quickly jogged memory.
What’s inside?
Well, once you get past the tissue paper you’ll find:
One pencil case.
Two pens.
One tote bag.
Two sticker sheets.
Two pairs of socks.
If nothing else, this post should raise awareness of CIRA among my Canadians readers. They do good work for us, and you should check out their website. They’ve even got a pretty good sense of humour. Just check out these Canadian stock photos they posted!
Quick Weekly Roundup
I spent the better part of the week digging up the original files for my comics. My digital filing system is what the kids call “hot garbage.” Five years of files and I couldn’t have just made a folder called “COMICS” and saved everything to it? 🤦♂️
I just have one comic left that I need to find, and then I can colour and compile them into an ebook.
How do YOU keep track of your digital art/comics?
I found out today my car is officially toast. I started calling around to ask about finally getting the transmission fixed. Some how the cost of a new transmission has jumped from $6K to $9K (anyone want to guess why?😒)
I had to see more specialists this week. My body isn’t in as bad shape as I was lead to believe. I just need to start treating it better…and go to physiotherapy.🙄
My year-long to-do list just got a little shorter! I was able to hire a company to haul away the remains of my old fence…well, the remains that the scavengers wouldn’t touch.
I took a KIA Soul for a test drive this week. I never thought I’d like KIA, but that car was surprisingly smooth on the road. We’re in the process of trying to takeover the lease, but I have worries due to my employment status. Being self-employed, yet making no money, is generally frowned upon. Apparently being a “Stay-At-Home-Dad” doesn’t command a respectable salary.😒 I hope to have some good news by this time next week.🤞
In less than ideal news, I found out yesterday, some of my friends and former coworkers are about to face the “joys” of unemployment. To help them out, I have offered to proofread and review their resumes. Having spent some time working for an Executive Search Firm, I got to see how CEOs and other c-suite folks write their resumes. Honestly, with the exception of some bragging about numbers, their resumes are no different than anyone else’s. So next week I am going to take a break from writing about what little is going on in my life, and talk about the best way, from my experience, to write a resume. Thrilling, right? Well, no, but given the state of the world right now, it will be useful.
